The majority of University degrees and institute diplomas focus heavily on providing students with an overview of the IT industry, teaching various programming languages and many different operating systems, which are often out of date, plus its theory based training, which is not attractive to IT employers. These skills are not specific enough for an IT employer to render you productive from day one. Degrees and Certificates are beneficial when coupled with hands-on, specific IT training, like globally recognised vendor certifications.
